Mid-day Movers

Here is a partial list of stocks moving on above-average volume:
  • High-volume advancers: PDFS, ASR, CCRT, FST, TTI, SWN, GIL, CERN, CTRP, CRM

  • High-volume decliners: WMAR, GTK, BBY, PBKS, WES, ZMH, UFCS, VTAL, ECPG, IPCR

Market Comments: The market fell considerably mid-morning, but is attempting to bounce from those levels (SPX 1231). I see a nice handful of stocks bucking the trend this morning, and trading nicely higher. Many of these are tech stocks, and also some of the high short interest plays I mentioned yesterday. Today's close is still a coin toss, but I still expect more short covering this week.

Is there a reason you chose to focus on high short interest stocks during expiration week or is it mere coincidence?

Just coincidence. I could have added another layer and looked at the put/call ratios for these stocks. But this screen was just for high short interest in the common, not the options.
